Planning Your Visit to the Oldham County History Center
The Oldham County History is located on the block east of the Oldham County Courthouse in LaGrange, Ky. We have 3 buildings on our grounds, the 1880 Presbyterian Church Education Annex, The Samuel Peyton Head Family Museum and the J.C. Barnett Archives and Library.
Our Education Annex will hold 100 people and can be used in inclement weather when planning lunch at our facility. We encourage groups to use our grounds for a picnic lunch when possible. There are large limestone blocks that were formerly part of the old Oldham County Jail and are excellent for sitting and eating.
Our museum contains restroom facilities and has a handicapped accessible entrance and elevator for use to our second floor. The first floor of our museum houses permanent collections of artifacts that represent the life of Oldham County's residents in the past. Our second floor is a changing exhibit area and usually changes about every 6 to 8 weeks.
The archives and library houses county records that date back to Oldham County's beginning in 1824. People come from all over the United States when tracing their genealogical records to use our archives for tracing their ancestors who may have lived in Oldham County. In addition we keep maps and general information about Oldham County's history, towns, and people that is useful for research.
Parking: There is ample parking in the lot that is beside our archives and library. Buses can park there or across the street by the fire station. Buses should unload and load students directly at our entrance on 106 N. Second Ave.
