History Center Receives $5,000 Gift from the Robins Foundation

The Oldham County History Society received a $5,000 gift to help preserve archival records at the Oldham County History Center. Plans are underway to renovate an unused area in the Chilton Barnett Archives and Library building on the museum campus. The Oldham County Historical Society is the repository for county court documents as well as letters, diaries, photographs and other artifacts that pertain to Oldham County government, families and businesses. The planned renovated area will help to reorganize the collections and store rare documents in double fireproof vaults and powder dry sprinkler systems. Currently the archive has humidity controls and water sprinkler systems and uses fireproof filing cabinets. The new plan will allow for a larger storage area.

The $5,000 grant is a gift from the Robins Foundation and was awarded under the director-initiated grants program with the sponsorship from Dr. E. Bruce Heilman. An Oldham County native, Heilman is currently Chancellor at the University of Richmond. He has served as President of two universities and has served as chairman of the boards for the Marine Corps University and the Marine Military Academy, the Maine Heritage Foundation and the Marine Association. He is founder and member of the Commandant’s Circle in the Museum of the Marines. Dr. Heilman married his college sweetheart, Betty Dobbins and they have raised 5 children.

The Oldham County History Center is very pleased to be the recipient of this gift that will be used to help direct the archival renovation.
