Cemetery Tours Scheduled

Learn about local history by visiting some of the unique cemeteries in Oldham County! The Oldham County Historical Society will conduct tours of some of the local cemeteries in Oldham County on October 6, 2007 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The tours will include the Pewee Valley Confederate Cemetery, Floydsburg Cemetery, Valley of Rest and Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Guides will be located at each of the cemeteries and provide specific information about each of the sites. Visitors will learn about local famous citizens such as D. W. Griffith and Rob Morris and the unique Confederate Cemetery at Pewee Valley that contains 313 graves of Civil War veterans who were residents of the nearby Confederate Home.
The tour is being held in conjunction with the exhibit at the Oldham County History Center, “Old Haunts and Favorite Spots: Oldham County Cemeteries” which will be on display through Nov. 3.
To participate on the tours call the Oldham County History Center for specific information on locations of the cemeteries and where to meet the guides for each site.
Participants can visit each or selected sites during the times between 11 a.m and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6.
