Join the Oldham County History Center on Thursday, September 20 at 6 p.m. for the History After Hours program by Sue Lynn McDaniels “ Dying Proper: A Century of Kentucky Funerals ”. Kentucky Humanities Council speaker, Sue Lynn McDaniel will clue us in on some of the strange funeral rituals of Kentucky's past. In this talk Daniel will explain how some of the “unusual” funeral traditions got started including how people would cover mirrors and stop their clocks when funerals were held in the home! Her expertise on Kentucky funeral traditions was from her research for her dissertation.
McDaniels is archivist for Western Kentucky University and has expertise on many topics including local children's author Annie Fellows Johnston! Currently she is the guest curator for the Oldham County History Center on the upcoming exhibit “The Little Colonel: A Romantic Vision of Life Long Ago in Oldham County”
This lecture coincides the history center's current cemetery exhibit “Old Haunts and Favorite Spots: Oldham County Cemeteries” and with the fall ghost tours conducted by Discover Downtown LaGrange.
