Learn about our people of the past and read some of the most unusual epitaphs from the cemeteries around Oldham County. This exhibit details the research and work of the history center's cemetery team led by our genealogist, Dot Carraco. For the last 10 years Dot with volunteers, has recorded and photographed cemeteries and gravesites across Oldham County. Oldham County's cemeteries include Kentucky's only confederate cemetery in Pewee Valley as well as gravesites such as D. W. Griffith and Eastern Star founder, Rob Morris. Displays also include funeral dress and traditions including funeral wakes, and celebrations. There will be details on some famous murders in
Oldham County such as the Verna Garr Taylor murder by Brigadier-GeneralHerny H. Denhardt, November 6, 1936. Special features for children include gravestone rubbings and activities on customs and traditions from various cultures such as the Dia de los Muertos or All Souls' Day celebration from Mexico.
