The Oldham County History Center will feature guest speaker and historian Dr. Tom Owens for the July “History After Hours” program on July 19. Dr. Owens has spent his career engaging folks with the local history. Owen is a Professor of Libraries and Community Relations Associate at the University of Louisville. As the Associate Archivist for Local History at the University Archives and Records Center, Owen works to preserve and make available records that document the university's history, as well as the history of the Louisville area. As an Associate for External Affairs, he promotes appreciation of UofL throughout Kentucky and the region. He served on the City of Louisville Board of Aldermen from 1990-1998 and serves on the Louisville Metro Council.
He has been instrumental in the historic revitalization efforts of downtown
Louisville's Main Street restoration. He has led numerous walking tours, published and produced articles, videos and given many lectures and interviews about community preservation of history and its importance for engaging people with their community.
The History After Hours program features cocktails and appetizers furnished by Irish Rover II followed by Dr. Owen's presentation. The activities take place in the Rob Morris Chapel on history center grounds on Thursday evening, July 19, 6 p.m. $13 for history center members/$15 for non-members.
