Exhibit Opens October 28
Oldham County native, resident, farmer, housewife and mother, Ruth Klingenfus has spent her life serving her community and family through local organizations such as church, homemakers and quilting groups. The Oldham County History Center is honored to display 15 of the many quilts that Ruth has collected and made over her lifetime. Quilt designs include appliqué, embroidery, as well as traditional and some contemporary designs.
Many of the quilts that Ruth created have been used as auction items for charities and gifts to commemorate special occasions in people's lives. Every week Ruth meets with her quilter's group, The Log Cabin Quilters, who share stories and exchange quilt blocks, pieces of fabric and special patterns.
The Log Cabin Quilters have helped to sleeve Ruth's quilts for display. They are also pieced together a quilt so visitors can try their hand at quilting. Peggy Lewis, president of the Log Cabin group says that Ruth is their mentor, oldest member, and shares her expertise in many ways. Quilt Appraisal, Saturday, Nov. 11, 10:30 until 2 p.m. $5 per appraisal at the history center
Dinner/Lecture at Irish Rover, Nov. 15 featuring expert Peggy Lynch, on antiques quilts and antique dolls, $15 members/$18 non-members
Workshop on Embroidery and Raised Stitches for Quilt Embellishments, Fabric artist Gail Williamson, Saturday, Dec 9th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. includes lunch,
