The Oldham County Historical Society will celebrate the opening of the Hermitage Farm: A Story of Families, Horses and History exhibit Friday March 4th at 7pm at the History Center.
Hermitage Farm is one of the well-known thoroughbred horse farms in the country. Situated along Highway 42, the farm has hosted visits from the Queen of England and is re-known for breaking the million dollar barrier at the Keeneland horse sales. Owned by the Henshaw and Waters family for 107 years, the farm was purchased by Warner Jones in the mid 1930's. The farm is now owned by Carl Pollard who took over Hermitage after Jones's death in 1994. The exhibit will feature artifacts and clothing from the Henshaw/Waters family who also owned the historic Locust Grove farm in Louisville . In addition there will be displays on the thoroughbreds and events that have made Hermitage famous. This opening celebration will also include a bluegrass music concert by the Cumberlands in the 1880's church on the Center's property. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. The exhibit will be on display through May 11th.
Tickets for the opening are $25 for History Center members and $28 for nonmembers and include admission to the exhibit, appetizers and Cumberlands concert tickets. Please call or stop by the History Center at 222-0826 to purchase tickets. Space is limited. |
