JANUARY 2005 January 22: D.W. Griffith's Birthday: Come by for birthday cake at noon . Special clips of Griffith 's movies all day at the history center. Finding My Sense of Place Children Saturday Morning Workshops from 10 am. Till Noon, $2, Recommended Ages: 8-12 years January 15: The Civil War in Oldham County : Meet Aunt Amanda Mount who reads letters from her nephew Amos in the 6 th Regiment January 22: Images from our Past: Examining the history and processes of images and photography. Children use digital cameras and create their own stories January 29: Dulcimer workshop: Children learn about Kentucky 's original instrument from members of the Upriver Dulcimer Band. FEBRUARY 2005 February 5: Meet Cora Harris and life as an African American in Oldham County during the first half of the Twentieth Century (Celebration of Black History Month: special treats!) February 12: Tracing My Roots: How to discover your family stories and family tree! February 12: Black History Month Celebration: Abraham Lincoln's Birthday: Movie Showing D. W. Griffith's Classic Silent Movie: "Abraham Lincoln" at the 1880s Church Annex, Popcorn and Softdrinks! Free. We have chairs but you can bring blankets, sleeping bags and your own treats if you want to sit on the floor. February 19: Oldham County 's Native American roots: A special tribute to our first natives of the county. February 26: Girl Scout Day! Special activities for girl scouts. Re-enactor Gary Gosser will portray life in the 18 th century in Oldham County . MARCH 2005 March 4: Private Opening of the Hermitage Farm Exhibit March 5: Humanities Council Book Series: Lunch with Ed McClanahan at Irish Rover, Too: "Famous People I Have Known" $10 members/$12 non-members March 12-16: Kid's Quilt Camp with Artist Gayle Williamson. Children get to work with Gayle and create their own stories and symbols in their quilts! $12 for all 3 sessions for members/ $15 for non-members March 16: Dinner and Lecture with Dana Olson, author of Prince Madoc, the white Indians of Kentucky, Irish Rover, Too, 6 p.m. $15 members/$18 non-members April 2005 April 13: Humanities Council Book Series: Noon lunch with Diane Coon at Irish Rover, Too: "How the West Was Lost: The Transformation of Kentucky from Daniel Boone to Henry Clay" $10 members $12 non-members. April 21: Celebrate local native composer/actor Buddy Pepper's birthday, with Birthday Cake at the museum- will feature some of his songs. May 2005 May 10: Celebrate the birthday of slave, abolitionist and first black editor of a Canadian newspaper, Henry Bibb with birthday cake at the museum, special reading at Noon on excerpts from Henry's slave narratives. May 11: Humanities Council Book Series: Noon lunch with author Peewee Watson at Irish Rover, Too: "A Taste of the Sweet Apple" $10 members/$12 non-members. May 13: Private opening of the "Celebrating Our Cultural Diversity: Oldham County 's German Heritage Exhibit" May 14: Public Opening of the "Celebrating our Cultural Diversity: Oldham County 's German Heritage Exhibit" May 14: Native plant and wildflower sale with proceeds going to the educational programs. May 21: Celebrate Annie Longfellows Johnson's Birthday, author of Little Colonel Series with Birthday Cake. The Little Colonel starring Shirley Temple will show throughout the day. May 18: Dinner and lecture with author Joseph Reinhardt " Two Germans in the 6 th Regiment in the Civil War", Westport General Store, 6 p.m. $15 members/$18 non-members. June 2005 June 18: Second Annual Juneteenth Celebration: A festival that celebrates AFrican American Heritage, History Center Museum June 20-24: History Camp for Kids, 9 a.m to 4 p.m. ages 6-9, $75 members/ $90 non-members. June 28-30: Educator's Workshop: "Teaching with Local Cultural and Natural History: Authentic Education for Kids" July 2005 July 9: Celebration of German Composer Bach: Outdoor concert July 11-15: History Camp for Kids, 9 am to 4 p.m. ages 10-13, $75 members/$90 non-members. July 10: Antique Tractor Display, Re-enactor Gary Gosser depicts pioneer living, Oldham County Day. July 20: Dinner and Lecture Series: Dr. Bruce Tyler, "Marguerite Davis and the 43 rd Aviation Squadron at Bowman Field", Brownsboro Eatery, 6 p.m., $15 members/$18 non-members August 2005 August 31: Celebrate Freemason poet laureate and founder of the Eastern Star, Rob Morris's birthday with cake and exhibit of some of his poetry. September 2005 September 10: German Heritage Octoberfest at the History Center September 21: Dinner/Lecture with Kentucky Humanities Speaker Ted Montell " Kentucky 's Haunted Houses", at the Irish Rover, Too, $15 members/$18 non-members September 30: Annual History Center Gala with opening of " The Moonshines Bright on My Oldham County Home" Exhibit November 2005 November 16: Dinner/Lecture Series. Author Playwright Carrider "Rita" Jones on "Black Hamlets and Neighborhoods in Kentucky " at the Westport General Store, 6 p.m., $15 members/$18 non-members. December 2005 December 2 and 3: Light-up LaGrange: Special re-enactors share simple treats and activities that kids can do from Christmas's past.
