Press Release For more information contact the Oldham County History Center 502-222-0826 Finding My Sense of Place Children's Workshops Begin Second Year During the drab winter months the Oldham County History Center celebrates this "slow" time of year with activities that focus on Sense of Place. Children are exposed to the unique cultural and natural history events that make our county and region such a special place. Cost is only $2 on Saturday mornings (Members are FREE) from 10 till NOON. These workshops are recommended for children age 8 to 12 years. Registration is suggested but not required- space is limited to 15. January 15: The Civil War in Oldham County : Meet re-enactor Peggy Burge as she portrays 1860s LaGrange resident Amanda Mount who reads letters from her nephew Amos in the 6th Regiment January 22: Images from Our Past: Children celebrate the birthday of D. W. Griffith, a native of Oldham County and one of the most celebrated and famous movie directors of all time. They will use digital cameras and learn about the art of photography and film making. January 29: A Dulcimer Workshop for Kids: Children learn about Kentucky 's original instrument from members of the Upriver Dulcimer Band. February 5: Celebrate Black History Month and meet re-enactor Diane Booker who portrays native Cora Harris that describes life as an African American in Oldham County during the first half of the Twentieth Century. February 12: Tracing my Roots: How to Discover Your Family Stories and Trace Your Ancestors! February 19: Oldham County 's Natives: What Special Plants and Animals were important to the Native Americans and settlers in early years?
