Press Release Featured Kentucky Humanites Council Speaker: Diane P. Coon, "All Along the River: Underground Railroad Crossing Points" Dinner and Lecture Series Wednesday, August 18, 2004, 6 p.m.
From Ashland to Paducah , fugitive slaves crossed the Ohio River in search of freedom. This talk describes where and how they crossed and the obstacles they faced, including paid patrols. Coon will emphasize the journey and tribulations of local slave and abolitionist, Henry Bibb who inspired many of the great leaders of the 19 th Century to abolish slavery. Join us for lecture and dinner at the Westport General Store in Westport , KY. Reservations are required: $15 members of the Oldham County Historical Society, $18 non-members (covers cost of meal- lecture is free) CALL 502-222-0826. Limited seating. This program is a part of the Summer exhibit " Celebrating Oldham County 's African American Heritage" featured at the Oldham County History Center . The exhibit ends September 6.
