Questions and Activities for “Pursuing Equality” Program |
| The following are some of the activities that students will participate in and learn about for the Pursuing Equality Program of the 12th United States Colored Heavy Artillery. It may be difficult to cover all the topics but the additional materials provided should help supplement the program. |

| Students will learn about the soldiers day-to-day living conditions. |
Activities:
The soldiers will have hands-on items for touch and exploration that they would carry with them on as they traveled on foot from battle to battle. While most of the items are reproductive, some may be authentic. The soldiers will demonstrate some of the food items that soldiers would have had accessible to them, as an example, students may help them make “hard tac”

| Students will learn about the cultural diversity of African Americans and their contributions to American society. |
Activities:
The soldiers will provide various items that are from African cultures that have become a part of day-to-day American life. The soldiers will provide examples of African American stories and important events and people that have shaped American history.

Students will learn how the African American contributed to the economic structure of the United States
|
Activities:
The soldiers will discuss the personal sacrifices of slavery and its contribution to the American workforce and economy. The soldiers will provide examples of how democracy allows for the personal growth and developmßent of individuals toward an enlightened society.
