Description: Be an archaeologist, cook like a pioneer, swim in a spring fed pond, trace a slave’s journey, visit the spirits of our past . . .these are just a few of the activities that you do when you come to the history camp at the Oldham County History Center. Under the direction of history center director, Dr. Nancy Theiss, children explore the world outside their door. They visit cemeteries, make their own fishing poles, learn where to look for and collect index fossils. They meet special folks along the way such as forester Sara Johns, conservationist Shauna Buchert and our own “horse whisperer” Garnett Morgan of Little Big Horse Trails. Campers learn the stories of Oldham County people who sometimes sacrificed their own personal self interests so that other’s could have a better life.
The camp size is limited to 10 children, ages 9 to 12 years old. Camp begins at 9 a.m. and ends each afternoon at 3 p.m. Children are dropped off and picked up at the Oldham County History Center.
